Despite the warnings, pension scheme members are still falling victim to criminal scams.
Pauline Padden, a NHS critical care nurse from Merseyside, was one of 245 victims defrauded in a multi-million pound scam. She lost her entire £45,000 of pension savings to fraudsters after she was contacted out of the blue at a very vulnerable point in her life.
The scammers approached her through a text message asking if she'd like to reinvest her deferred pension to get a better return, and also receive 10% cashback as a gift. It seemed the perfect opportunity for Pauline, allowing her to spend more time at home with her terminally ill mother.
You can watch Pauline's story on YouTube below, or read about it on the BBC News website.
How we support you to make the right pension decisions
If you're over 55, leaving Rolls-Royce and looking at your pension options, you can get retirement advice from WPS Advisory (WPSA). In most cases, the advice is paid for by Rolls-Royce and the UK Pension Fund and if you don't qualify, you can access it at preferential rates.
Retirement advice isn't just for people who want to transfer. The experts at WPSA can help you to understand all of your options and help you to make the right choice.
Find out more about the advice that's on offer to you by looking at our Retirement Planning & Financial Advice page.
Remember, scammers never stop coming up with new ways to part you from your money. We've seen financial adviser websites claiming their firm has an association with Rolls-Royce and members have reported getting calls from the Rolls-Royce pensions team, asking them if they'd be interested in transferring their benefits.
